David:Shiell

Founding Partner, Managing Director

Hailing from Australia, David Shiell formally worked in Finance before moving into advertising in the 90’s with media agency MindShare. Finding a natural fit for his analytical abilities he became Media Group Head, planning through-the-line campaigns for clients such as Ford, Kraft Foods, Kodak and Duracell. His interest in online led him to relocate to the UK and a role as Account Director at Agency.com, heading up the British Airways account whilst aiding in the growth of the Agency.com business.

With global experience, he is a regular speaker at forums and well quoted in publications. His work has been the recipient of a number of industry awards. David founded Web Liquid in 2003.

Alain:Portmann

Founding Partner, Head of Strategy & Media

A native of Chile, Alain Portmann started his advertising career in 1996 at Wunderman Cato Johnson, New York. In 1998 Alain Portmann joined Brand Dialogue, New York the dedicated online agency launched by Young & Rubicam to service its clients. While at Brand Dialogue Alain Portmann worked on the digital accounts of American Express, Glaxo Smith Kline, Star Alliance and United Airlines. 

Sensing an opportunity abroad, Alain Portmann joined Agency.com London in April 2000 as a Media Supervisor responsible for managing the British Airways and One World accounts.

By late 2002 Alain Portmann had become Media Director of Agency.com London working across Save the Children, British Airways and Hilton International as well as becoming an active member of the agencies management team. Alain Portmann recieved a BA in Marketing and Management from Loyola University, New Orelans. In 2003 Alain Portmann departed Agency.com together with David Shiell to start Web Liquid.

Matt :Cronin

Founding Partner

 

Matt made the transition from traditional advertising to digital marketing at its infancy, helping clients bridge the gap between offline and online efforts. Early on, he pioneered the use of the Internet as a cost effective sales and distribution channel, achieving strong ROI for brands like Columbia House, Gaiam and JPMorgan Chase. With Matt’s leadership on British Airways and Hilton, they made the Internet an effective branding medium.

For Avis and MGM Mirage, Matt developed techniques to make online Word-of-Mouth and Social Media a valuable source of consumer research. And for the launch of new brands such as OpenSkies, Matt lead complete digital strategies to build anticipation and demand amongst target consumers.

 


Matt Cronin co-founded Web Liquid to focus on marketers’ most unique and important digital marketing challenges, developing innovative strategies that connect brands and consumers in the ever-changing digital space. Along the way, Matt Cronin's work has been recognized by Business2.0 and the Society of Consumer Affairs Professional (SOCAP). Matt Cronin has been a featured speaker at online marketing leadership forums and quoted in publications such as the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Direct Marketing News.

Paul:Burani

Partner

Always a believer in the analytical foundation of marketing, Paul Burani was trained in traditional research-driven brand development at The NPD Group, managing accounts in the consumer packaged goods industry (Kraft, Nestle). After a stint in the Copenhagen Business School's Innovation and Business Development program, he began consulting on digital marketing. Paul Burani went on to found Clicksharp Marketing, a search engine and social media marketing consultancy positioned to help entrepreneurs use digital media to launch brands and open new categories.  

Paul Burani joined in 2009 when Web Liquid acquired Clicksharp, adding Search and other PPC media to the digital marketing agency’s capability set. An active contributor to Search Engine Watch and other industry publications, Paul Burani has a BA in Communications from the University of Michigan and an MBA in International Marketing from Suffolk University.

 

Irene:Zalami

Account Director

Irene Zalami started her marketing career in 2001 as the Marketing & Brand Manager for Australia’s leading online florist, Roses Only. Her role involved the management of through-the-line and online marketing. After moving to London in 2004 Irene Zalami worked as the Marketing & Business Development Manager for Ausbrokers, a business development vehicle that fast-tracks Australian companies into foreign markets.

She then moved to a Project Management role at BAA to launch, develop and manage their PPC search program. In 2006 she moved “agency side” to Web Liquid, heading up the Avis UK and Travel City Direct accounts. Along the way, she has also managed travel clients such as Ramada Jarvis, Kosmar and Emergency Abroad before becoming Account Director in 2008.
